The South East United Under 16s enjoyed an impressive Devonport Cup campaign over the long weekend, emerging unbeaten from five matches against some of the north’s finest. Unfortunately, three wins and two draws weren’t quite enough for Glen Roland’s young charges to claim top spot in the round robin tournament, as the hosts took out the main prize.
Results:
Friday 2-2 v Devonport Strikers
Saturday 4-0 v Northern Rangers 3-2 v Ulverstone
Sunday 2-2 v Riverside 4-0 v Somerset
Afterwards, Glen was as humble and admiring as ever of his exciting group:
“To all those here and at home, thanks for the support you put around these young adults. Without your 100% support none of this is possible. To the lads, again we have closed the gap. 2nd out of six and went through every game without a loss. We ran out the final game strongly.
“Our fitness and strength conditioning work has paid dividends over the past couple of seasons, and the will to never give up is unbelievable to watch. We must also remember we have four 14-year olds and two 15-year olds in our squad, and everyone played their heart out. Congratulations on the great results and well done to everyone on and off the park.”
